How much of this syllabus each exam actually uses.
SSC — CGL, CHSL, MTS, CPO, GD, Steno
Covers almost the entire master syllabus — around 95%, including CGL Tier-2's extra topics like emotional and social intelligence.
Railway — NTPC, Group D, ALP, Technician, JE
Almost the same topics as SSC. Puzzles appear less often and non-verbal reasoning is moderate rather than heavy.
Banking — SBI, IBPS, RBI
Heavy focus on Puzzles, Seating Arrangement, Input-Output, Inequality, Data Sufficiency and Syllogism. Non-verbal reasoning is rarely tested.
Police — UP, Delhi, Bihar, MP & more
Basic reasoning is the core — blood relation, direction sense, coding-decoding, series, analogy and syllogism come up in almost every paper. Puzzles, seating arrangement and data sufficiency rarely appear.
Defence — NDA, CDS, AFCAT, Agniveer
AFCAT has a full reasoning paper — verbal plus heavy non-verbal and spatial ability (cubes, mirrors, paper folding). NDA and CDS written papers skip reasoning entirely; it shows up later in the SSB interview instead.
State PCS, Patwari, Lekhpal, Forest Guard, Court Clerk
Mostly SSC-level reasoning — but this varies more than any other category. Some state exams (like the revised UP Lekhpal) have dropped reasoning entirely, so always check your specific exam's syllabus.
